Team Okina have created free mobile apps for learning about Noh theatre and music. You can even play the four Noh instruments!
- We Noh is an app to teach you about the stories and convention of Noh theatre.
- Ohayashi Sensei by Team Okina is a free IOS and Android app that anyone can download to learn about (and play) Noh music.
Noh Reimagined is working with schools in London to introduce children to Noh music through rhythm, chant and storytelling.
In early February we attended a school assembly at Pakeman Primary school for children aged 4-11 years old. Yukihiro Isso and Takinojo Mochizuki, both internationally regarded master musicians, introduced the Noh instruments and performed music from Shishi, a dance associated with wild animal spirits.
We are working on further schools projects around the time of our festival in May, where children will be able to participate in creating simple rhythms and the explore sound and texture of the instruments using digital technology.
The Noh Reimagined education project is generously supported by The Japan Society.
