Noh in the North
In partnership with DARE (Opera North / University of Leeds)
Friday 2 & Saturday 3 October
Noh in the North is a new initiative bringing Noh and Opera into dialogue. Through exploration, knowledge-sharing and public engagement, the project brings Noh into dialogue with Opera North, creating new opportunities for exchange between two different performance traditions.
Our first event takes place in Leeds on 2–3 October and welcomes everyone interested in discovering, experiencing and engaging with Noh.
Friday 2 October: Noh Workshop

The workshop will be led by three distinguished Noh performers:
- Takehito Tomoeda (Shite, principal actor)
- Yutaro Tomoeda (Shite, principal actor)
- Tatsushi Narita (Kotsuzumi, shoulder drum)
An opportunity to experience Noh through movement, voice, chanting and music, and to explore the traditions and techniques of this unique Japanese performance form.

Saturday 3 October: Noh & Opera Performances

The afternoon will feature short performances from Noh and Opera, offering an opportunity to experience both traditions side by side.
